GPR40 (FFAR1) is a Gq‑coupled G‑protein‑coupled receptor that binds long‑chain free fatty acids. It is predominantly expressed in pancreatic β‑cells, mediating fatty‑acid‑potentiated glucose‑dependent insulin secretion, and participates in gut hormone release and glucose homeostasis regulation. GPR40‑mediated signaling improves glycemic control and represents a promising therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes mellitus.
