AVPR1a (Arginine Vasopressin Receptor 1A) is a Protein Coding gene belonging to the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family. It binds the neurohypophysial hormone arginine vasopressin (AVP) and activates the phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system to mediate various physiological effects, including vasoconstriction, hepatic glycogenolysis, platelet aggregation and regulation of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) release. AVPR1a has also been found to play a role in social behavior and emotional regulation. Among its related pathways are Signaling by GPCR and Gq-mediated calcium signaling. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include G protein-coupled receptor activity and vasopressin receptor activity.
